Praising the Prophet صلي الله عليه و سلم

Whenever you hear someone talking about Prophet Muhammad, they always say صلي الله عليه و سلم ‘salAllahu alayhi wasalam’ or ‘peace and blessings (of Allah) be upon him), or simply ‘peace be upon him’. Maybe your parents remind you to say it if you forget. Have you ever wondered why they do this?

In Arabic it is called ‘salawat’ or ‘salah ala an-Nabi’ and some people also call it ‘durood’. Allah tells us in Surah al-Ahzab:

"Verily, Allah and His angels shower blessings on the Prophet. O Believers! Send blessings upon him and salute him with all respect..."
    [surah al-Ahzab; 33:56]

Ibn Mas’ud (radiAllahu anhu) said that the Messenger of Allah, (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said, 'Verily the nearest of people to me on the Day of Judgment will be those who recited much prayers on me'
    [at-Tirmidhi].

So you can see that praying for the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) and sending our greetings to him are very important. In another hadith from Ibn Mas’ud, the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said: 'Allah has angels who travel about the earth; they convey to me the peace greeting from my ummah.'
    [Abu Dawud].
So wherever you are, if send your salam to the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam), the angels will carry it to him.

After Allah, Muslims love Prophet Muhammad (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) more than anyone else. Why? Because Allah sent him as His Last Prophet with the Qur’an. He is our teacher and our guide. When we love him, we love his goodness and honesty.

He (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) even said, 'None of you becomes a believer until I am dearer to him than his children, his parents and all mankind.'
    [sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Does this mean that by praising him or sending him our salam, we are loving our dear Prophet (saws) too much? No! Actually, Ali (radiAllahu anhu) said that the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said ‘he who, when I am mentioned before him, fails to invoke blessings upon me is a miser.’
    [at-Tirmidhi]
So he was saying that anyone who doesn’t say it is being stingy!

You might find it strange – how could you love someone you’ve never met? Well, by learning the SEERAH - the life of the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam), studying the SUNNAH – his way of life, and HADITH – what he used to say, you can learn to love him, more than anyone you know.

“Incline not unto those who do wrong, or the fires of Hell will touch you. You have no protector save Allah, and you will not be helped”
